Superfood for glowing skin

Superfood for glowing skinDo you ever wonder why shopping for a serum or exfoliator today is starting to resemble a browse through the health food store?  From chia-seed facial oils to matcha masks, just about any ingredient that’s rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, or omega fatty acids has likely found its way into a beauty product (or several)!

Just as our internal body needs an array of nutrients and vitamins to perform at an optimal level, so too does our largest organ – our skin.  Applying superfoods directly can enable nutrients to penetrate the skin for repair and damage prevention.

If your skin is looking a little drab, it’s time to spice things up – literally!

  • Turmeric – not only are all the top chefs are cooking with this trendy spice, most beauty gurus are infusing tumeric in facial masks, and for good reason. Tumeric contains curcumin, an antioxidant that combats free radicals that can seriously dull your skin.  When used topically like in a mask, it can help renew the skin by acting as a stimulator for skin elasticity and firmness, and fighting any wrinkles and fine lines.
  • Paprika – Paprika provides a great source of antioxidants, including vitamin C and E, and contains beneficial anti-aging ingredient like carotenoids. Aside from sprinkling paprika onto food, try incorporating paprika into your beauty essentials, like trying a simple DIY face mask or combined with a fruit acid peel, to create a brighter and clearer complexion.

  • Bell peppers – high in vitamin C, bell peppers can help smooth out your skin and lighten the appearance of any dark spots caused by the overproduction of pigmentation.
  • Citrus – topical antioxidants like vitamin C have been shown to help calm inflammation, brighten dark spots, and even your skin complexion.  So eating citrus foods like oranges, tangerines, and grapefruits should help and applying it topically can also do wonders to tired-looking skin.

Tip: Mix half a teaspoon of paprika with a dollop of honey and milk in a bowl and apply to skin. Leave it on for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Not only will your skin feel smooth but you’ll also have a healthy glow.
